The district of Viddalba is located on the fertile plain of Coghinas river where agriculture and farming are the main occupation of the locals. The most popular vegetables in the region are certainly the artichokes which are also exported to the rest of Italy. The river Coghinas is well known for the fishing and canoeing activities. Other popular open air sports in the area are cycling, horseback and all the sea related activities such as kite surfing, windsurfing, scuba diving, etc. Nearby is the hamlet of Casteldoria famous for its Thermal Baths with some hot spring water that can reach over 70°C. The thermal baths are situated in a forest of pines and eucalyptus trees, surrounded by reddish rocks where the sulfur steams of hot water emerge directly from the river’s bed.

There are also plenty of vineyards in the area and, of course, we recommend you to try the local white Vermentino wine together with a traditional dish of “zuppa gallurese”. There are plenty of food and wine festivals around this area too, especially during late spring and summer. Among the most important: San Gavino a Monte, which is celebrated on May 1st, the Virgin of Pompeii on May 8th and St. Leonard on the last Sunday of May.

There are plenty of historical sites in the area, many remains of which can be seen in the town’s Archaeological Museum.

The coastline in Viddalba provides plenty of lovely sandy beaches where families and water sport lovers can pass the time very presently. As well as the scenery being lovely, the facilities are good and food and wine excellent. This area offers excellent value for money. It is also very much appreciated by the Sardinians themselves who bring the little ones to play freely on the large beaches. We highly recommend visiting this area during your 2019 holiday season.
