There is nothing more amusing for a small child than spending time to build wonderful sand castles and picking up shells and little coloured stones on the beach. Well, they won’t be disappointed in Orosei and its 2km white sandy beach which is within walking distance from the town. Please remember: taking sand, stones, etc. from the beach is strictly forbidden in Sardinia.

The beaches provide all possible services and amenities for a comfortable family stay. Deck chars, umbrellas, etc. are available to rent. There is also wheelchair access to the beach.

There are plenty of other fabulous beaches and coves around which are great for families with small kids or for those looking for an active holiday break.

Among the most popular are: Cala Liberotto, Cala Ginepro, and Osalla beach. All have crystal clear sea water and are very clean and unspoiled. Probably the best beach for small kids is “Sa Curcurica” and Cala Ginepro which have shallow water and a pine forest behind them that provides great shelter for picnics during the hot summer days.

A few minutes drive from the town centre towards the North coast there is another gorgeous and unspoiled beach called Bidderosa Oasis. This is a protected natural area where access is restricted to preserve the flora and fauna of this unspoiled coastline. Crystal clear sea is guaranteed with shallow water, pine trees, hundred years old juniper trees and wild Mediterranean vegetation. This is a real paradise for adults and young children which we recommend you to visit if you are looking for a day away from the crowds and want to reconnect with Nature.

What to do in Orosei?

Families with young children will find plenty of facilities and amenities for a comfortable holiday at reasonable prices. Orosei and its coastline are one of the 12 beaches that received a Green Flag by local pediatricians as ideal for kids in Sardinia. Sknorkeling is a great way to discover underwater life and kids love that. Paddle boats are available in almost all beaches and there are companies that organize cycling tours in the surrounding unspoiled countryside. There are also many boat tours available in the area to visit some spectacular beaches there, especially along the Gulf of Orosei. If your kids like horse riding then no problem: look for one of the various stables around that have horses suitable for young kids.

Couples and active holiday lovers can avail of a wide range of possible options that include diving to visit the fascinating wreck of the KT 12 war ship from the WW II. See video HERE.

Other very popular activities are trekking and hiking among the rugged mountains of the Supramonte not too far away from there. There are plenty of wonderful caves that you should visit: the “Ispinigoli grotto” with its impressive 38 metres stalagmite, “grotte del Bue Marino” and “grotta del Fico” located on the Orosei Gulf and accessible only by boat. Mountain biking is widespread in the area as well as all water sports including windsurfing, kayaking, canoeing, etc.

We higly recommend you to take a trip and visit the entire coastline of the Orosei Gulf. You can rent a boat in the Orosei harbor or simply avail of one of the little ferries that bring tourists around the coast. The tour generally lasts the entire day and you will enjoy amazing views and beaches. You will be impressed by the beauty and wildness of Cala Goloritzé, Cala Mariolu, Cala Luna and Cala Sisine.
