Holiday Cardedu 2019

Cardedu is located in the so called Ogliastra region in the Western part of Sardinia. The region enjoys a particular temperate climate that makes the summer months a perfect time to enjoy the local wonderful beaches and the unspoiled landscapes.

Cardedu is the favorite destination for many windsurfers and kite surfers due to the almost regular southern winds blowing between 10 and 15 knots. If you are a surf lover you are definitely in the right place !!

The surrounding areas and the coastline offer many possibilies to participate in open air sports and activities: hiking and trekking are very popular due to the endless number of paths adapted to any level of experience. They usually go through the mountains and often offer spectacular views of the Mediterranean coastline. The sea, about 4 km east of Cardedu, has an countless list of options for water sports: canoying, kayaking, beachvolley, diving, horseriding, and many more.

Considering the presence of many long white sandy beaches these are never overcrowded and provide plenty of space for everyone. Families and kids particularly love this part of Sardinia as the water is shallow and safe for swimming and also for the availability of all the necessary services and amenities for a confortable holiday. Many resorts do provide beach umbrellas, deckchairs, have a bar on the beach, rent boats, etc.

Resorts in the area are well equiped to entertain the kids and adults during the day and in the evening providing many open air activities for a fun holiday. These include: kayaking, snorkelling, sand castle building (we couldn’t forget that one), paddle boats and much more. The list is long so we advise you to do a bit of research before you arrive there based on your own preferences.  

 The nearest and most popular seaside and beach resorts close to Cardedu are: the area of ​​Marina di Gairo, La Spiaggetta, Perd 'and Pera, Museddu and Foddini.

Cardedu has also several archeological sites and monuments. The church of the Madonna del Buon Cammino in the outskirts of the town is one of the oldest in the area. The church’s location today is not the original one. It was moved during the middle age to make it safer from pirate raids.

In Bacu and Ludu there is a notable example of an ancient sacred well, escavated about 4000 years ago. In the surrounding areas there are also eight nuraghi that can be visited. Among the most relevant: De Perdu, Genna Masoni, Cardedu and that of Tronconi.

Like all the Sardinian towns and resorts Cardedu has its own festivals and events that animate the village: the local patron is St. Paul, celebrated on June 29th, then a long list of  summer events called "Together with Cardedu", start in July and include concerts, traditional dancing music events, etc.  

Cardedu and surrounding areas are very much appreciated by both families with young kids and couples.

The families find confort and entertainment for their little ones: the beaches are safe and most of the time with the presence of lifeguards from mid June to mid September. The resorts provide good value for money and are also very much appreciated by families from the Italain mainland.

Also for the young couples the options for an active holiday are many. There are local small companies that specialize in open door activities.

In addition, in Ogliastra you can taste really amazing food and wine! A must try are the so called “culurgiones“, the local gorgeous version of ravioli. Among the wines the local red Cannonau is a superb companion with a dish of local meats and pecorino cheese.
