Cagliari is the capital not only of the same province but also of the whole Sardinia. The famous writer D.H. Lawrence was enchanted about the limpid sky and the sun which gave to the city a blinding light. It is rich in history and culture due to the many archaeological sites that show the passage of many people who dominate the city along the centuries: some of them can be visited only during the “Monumenti Aperti” exhibition (Opened Monuments Day), organized by the Cagliari's council with the cooperation of the main cultural associations of the Sardinian capital. From ten years to now, Cagliari has been turned into a tourist destiantion thanks to its long sandy beach, the Poetto and thanks to the many pubs, clubs and restaurants located in the centre just in front of the port.
