Santa Margherita and the multiplication of three “ravioli”
According to legend, on a Sunday morning, ages ago, a group of youth was going back home after having participated to the Mass in Baradili. While walking on a countryside road, they noticed a wooden statue representing Santa Margherita, leaning on the field's grass. The youth, surprised, decided to go back in town and gave it to the priest.
Once arrived to the priest's house, they found him seated at table. On his plate, there were only three ravioli:a light meal, that the priest was happy to share with them to celebrate the event. Seated at table with him, those ravioli seemed never-ending. In the meantime, in the towns rumors were going around that the little statue had been found. Many worshipers arrived to the priest's house and he offered also to them some tasty ravioli.
From that 13th of July, Baradili celebrates “Santa Margherita de is cruguxionis” (that means ravioli), as it was baptized after that event. The Saint is also celebrated on the 22nd of May, with a ceremony involving the children of Baradili: the priest invite them to ring an antique silver bell and then to drink the water from the fountain next to the “nuraghe” called Nuraxi Candeu. According to the popular tradition, this rite would give back to dumbs the capability of speech.
