In Santadi the Mauritano Wedding under the water sign
“Mauritano” wedding: in the first Sunday of August starting from 1969, Santadi represents the antique ceremonial (it is supposed to originate from the period preceding the advent of Christianity) with the spouses dressed with traditional costumes and the two processions (each following one of the spouses from its home till the main public square) with the “traccas”, the typical Sardinian floats adorned for the festivity and towed by oxes.
After the Mass, the spouses’ mothers bless the couple with two water jugs (a ritual that follow the pre-Christian cult of the water), grain (fecundity symbol), salt (wisdom), coins (economic welfare) and rose petals (love and marriage). A sumptuous wedding banquet comes afterwards.
