Birdwatching in wet zones
The presence of artificial lakes, ponds and other humid zones in a large part of Sardinian territories, allow to admire various species of birds, some migratory and other permanent. We recommend birdwatchers an excursion to the lake of Casteldoria in Anglona and to the small lake of Martis, in Triulintas locality.
In the humid zones of Arborea and Penisola del Sinis, well-organized positions are available in nearly all the ponds, where is possible to watch the pink flamingo, sultan chicken, duck-hawk, Sardinian partridge, heron, dwarf heron, stilt, griffon.
In Barbagie there are many artificial lakes (Gusana, Cucchinadorza and Govossai), that constitutes the ideal habitat for many animal species: not only birds, but also several wild mammalians that populated the woods of the highest Sardinian mountains.
On the shores of the artificial basins of the Cedrino and the rio Posada (Baronìe) is possible to admire numerous species of birds, such as the sultan chicken, the pink flamingo, the heron and others.
In the Campidano there are well-organized positions especially on the ponds of Molentargius and Santa Gilla (the second lagoon in Cagliari, Elmas and Assemini), where it is possible to see the pink flamingo, the sultan chicken, griffon, duck-hawk, Sardinian partridge, heron, dwarf heron, stilt, griffon, and others species of seagulls.
The artificial lakes of Casteldoria and San Teodoro are populated by many birds species, in part migratory. However, the woods of Gallura also offers a good view of the characteristic Sardinian fauna.
In Mandrolisai we suggest positioning especially on the shores of the lake Benzone, where it is possible to see numerous species of the avifauna of Sardinia.
In Nurra, there are well-organized sites, like the lake Baratz and the pond of Calich, where it is possible to watch pink flamingoes, sultan chicken, griffons, hawks and herons.
In Sassarese-Romangia region you could pass by the pond of Platamona, where it is possible to admire the numerous bird species which live there all year round.
