The naturalistic Oasis Lipu in the Island of San Pietro
In the Island of San Pietro (Sulcis-Iglesiente), the Lipu ( Italian environmentalist association member of the BirdLife International) - in collaboration with the Province of Cagliari and the Town Council of Carloforte – has realized a naturalistic oasis of 236 hectares, between Cala Fico and Cala Vinagra, into a rocky platform, sheer dropping to the sea. Birds of several species, including hawks (that spend the winter in the wormer Madagascar), nidify into the hundreds of clefts and cavities formed by the erosion.
In the Oasis Lipu Carloforte, sighting points and a surveillance field have been organized in order to stop the poaching episodes. Beyond hawks, it is possible to admire kestrels, buzzards, cormorans Corse seagulls.
