Oristanese, the richest region in ponds and marsh
The province of Oristano, which includes the region of Arborea and of the Sinis Peninsula, is the richest in ponds and marshes. In Arborea the most important ponds are Santa Giusta and Marceddì, extensively used for mullets and eels fishing. Marceddì, flowing directly into the sea, is renowned for the mussel breeding, which constitute the base of many typical dishes.
The presence of resident and migratory birds (avifauna) attracts many admirers and studious (look at Birdwatching). The vegetation is also interesting: many are the plans that spontaneously grow on the marsh shores which are used for the creation of baskets, panniers and even of typical local boats “is fassonis” (look Handicrafts). It is possible to admire bog grass huts, where the fishermen live.
