The Coral Riviera, 75 kilometers of five-star sea
Nurra boasts one of the most beautiful coast in Sardinia. The Coral Riviera, 75 kilometers of sandy beaches, dunes and rocks. Among these, there are long stretches of beach like San Giovanni and Maria Pia, in Alghero: from the Lido of Alghero to Fertilia (locality edified during the fascism period, equipped with a big touristic port), more than 5 kilometers with long stretches of dunes in the shade of the pine wood. Glorious beaches are also the Bombarde, the Lazzaretto, Maristella and Mugoni (surrounded by a beautiful pine wood). Majestic rocks characterize the stretches from the bay of Porto Conte to the promontory of Capo Caccia (with Punta Cristallo, a overhanging rock 326 meters high).
For people moving by boat, unmissable is the passage to Foradada, a small island not far from the cliffs of Capo Caccia, in which the waves movement has opened a big gap: in this natural gallery the boats leading to the cave of Nettuno stand in to allow turists to take very suggestive pictures.
Very impressive is also the coast of Argentiera, mainly rocky, but for the lovers of white thin sand a visit to Stintino beach cannot be missed (very beautiful the beach of the Pelosa, characteristic the hamlet of Stintino built by the local fishermen around the end of nineteenth century), close to Punta Negra, where the sea has a beautiful turquoise color. From there is possible to embark for visiting the Parco Marino Nazionale (National Marine Park) of the Asinara, an island that – until few years ago – was the host of a maximum security prison (at the end of the XIX century was an agricultural penal colony ): the structure could be soon transformed into a museum. Very interesting is the presence of small albino donkeys. The Park, instituted in 1997, is protected by strict national safeguarding laws.
