Poetto Beach (Cagliari, province of Cagliari)

The coastline of Poetto is situated in Cagliari and it extends to Quartu Sant’ Elena. At the end of the beach there is a promontory called Devil's Saddle. The legend tells that Lucifer after being fallen into the water with his saddle, he left his prints in this promontory. This is the origin of the name of the promontory. It is simple to reach from Calamosca, through a naturalistic path. From the Devil's Saddle you can see the whole coastline and the town. It is an amazing view. In the promontory a luxuriant Mediterranean vegetation grows. The beach is very near from the pond of Molentargius and the salt pans, where it is possible to see the flight of the pink flamingos ( sa genti arrubia in Sardinian dialect) that nest in a protected oasis separated from a very busy street only by reeds. The Poetto beach is typically frequented by Cagliari residents and it is connected to the town by bus with an efficient public service.

How to reach the beach

Take Viale Diaz till arriving to Viale Poetto that brings you to the beach, which is 9 km long. From Viale Poetto to Viale Colombo di Quartu the beach belongs to Cagliari while from Viale Colombo of Quartu to Margine Rosso it belongs to Quartu Sant’Elena.
