Cala Mariolu (Baunei, province of Ogliastra)
Cala Mariolu overlooks the Gulf of Orosei and it is situated in Punta Ispuligi (Baunei). The cove takes its name from the foca monaca (nun seal), called "mariolu" by Sardinian fishermen. It is characterized by a crystal clear water and by a sea floor with pink pebbles. Near the cove there are several caverns, such as the Grotta del Fico (The Cave of the Fig) which is possible to reach only by boat. The shallowness of the water let children play on the shore without dangers. It is an ideal place for scuba diving.
How to reach the beach
It is possible to reach the cove by sea with pleasure boats or by the many boats that every day leave the ports of Cala Gonone, Arbatax and Santa Maria Navarrese. Also it is possible to reach it walking through a trekking path (only for professional people).
