The granite from Gallura, for years exported all over the world
All around Sardinia, unevenly spread, beautiful testimonies of stone-carving activity (since prehistory) are fortunately well visible: not only the megalithic monuments, naturally, but also the Giants' Graves, sacred wells, churches and little statues representing divinities. In a more recent time, numerous artworks of Sardinian sculptors and chisellers came up to the international fore for the beauty of their handworks.
Gallura is widespread especially with caves of granite, a large part of which is exported towards USA, Japan and many European Counties, notwithstanding the Chinese competition. From the rough rock are obtained slabs for street paving or blocks used for the building construction. Tempio and Calangianus are the main centres of granite and marble sector.
