The art of weaving and the comparison with different techniques
From centuries, the art of weaving is handed down all around Sardinia, with different peculiarities from zone to zone. The patterns are usually drawn on the flora and fauna of Sardinia, but also on figures of women, knights, hunting scenes, heraldic symbols, and geometric designs. Up until few decades ago, the woman was in charge of preparing the house dowry: the tradition was passed down from mother to daughter.
In Arborea horizontal loom are habitually utilized with the exception Zeddiani, where vertical looms are used for a more modern production (for instance the so-called knotted carpets).
Santa Giusta is famous for tapestries woven with the technique called “a punta de agu”(“at the tip of the needle”).
