The shawls of Oliena and Villanovaforru in the freezing winter

Oliena is surely the main center in Nuorese, and one of the most important in Sardinia, for the handicraft production of woolen shawls finely worked. The shawl is a must of the local traditional costume, and sometimes it is embellished by insertions of golden or silver yarn. The embroideries with flower pattern are very colorful and stand out of the setting, which is usually black.

Villanovaforru (Marmilla) is one of the excellent centres for embroidery, in particular for the production of woolen shawls finely worked. The shawl was not only an optimal expedient to cover oneself in the coldest days, but it was also an important partt of the traditional costume. The bright colors and the kind of weaving give value to these yarn, always in high demand by tourists.

In Siddi (Marmilla) it is possible to admire the work of few craftsmen, who hand down the great embroidery tradition.
