
All over the island a field in constant ferment
Beyond the most famous centers for the ceramic production, this field plays an important role in the economy of other localities of Sardinia. For example, according to a line based on the innovation, Cabras (with Cagliari and Sassari) constitutes a point of reference in the production of white majolica.
The ceramists of Olbia (Gallura) are appreciated for the quality of their artefacts, above all for their vases and for the furniture objects (like the animal-shaped ornaments).
Ever since Sassari is one of the centers par excellence of this field, both in the creation of handicraft plates and of majolicas.
Bosa (Marghine-Planargia) is one of the most important centers of tradition of the ceramic produced in Sardinia, it is not by accident that some of the most renowned Sardinian ceramists were born in this town. In the old town center numerous are the work-rooms and the ceramic shops.
In the area of Gerrei, San Nicolò Gerrei keeps alive a good tradition in this field, above all in the production of vases and gift goods.
Among the localities of Marmilla, that boast traditions in this field, Siddi is the one that mostly defends the great experience of its ceramists.
Dorgali is the center par excellence of the area of Nuoro, above all as regards jugs, plates and kitchen utensils.
In Sarrabus two are the localities with an important tradition in this field. In Muravera, there is a House museum that hosts an exhibition dedicated to the local handicraft, from the ceramics to the glazes, to the wooden sculptures and other artefacts. In the center of Villasimius, instead, many are the ceramic shops and the handicraft laboratories.
