In Sinnai a fair of the baskets decorated with red fabric
Sinnai (Sarrabus) boasts a great tradition in the production of baskets and hampers of several sizes, with or without cover. These containers in Sinnai are decorated with strips of red fabric: they were employed in order to conserve or to transport food (bread, cakes, fruit) and objects (like for example balls of wool, needles, pins, thread). Also the flour-sifters were realized with the use of interlaced straw. In August the center of Sinnai lives up in occasion of the Fiera del Cestino e dell'Artigianato (the Fair of the Basket and of the handicraft).
The basketwork has developed in some localities of Sarrabus, in particular in San Vito, where above all are used the swamp cane strips.
The stems of the galingale, a variety of the rush, are especially manufactured in Muravera to produce baskets and hampers.
