Jewels and pendants, gold is liked better than silver

Gold joined the tradition of Sardinian jewels during the last centuries. Once silver was much more used than now, because it was extracted from many mines of the island. The workshops of Sardinia have created precious pendants, liturgical jewels even of the Christian tradition, which have been admired (sometimes also bought) by millions of tourists in the last fifty years: in museums, shops, in the I.S.O.L.A. Centers (regional institute for organizing the handicrafts labour), fairs and in occasion of feasts and festivals, in which folkloric groups flaunt very beautiful pieces of jewelery.

The areas of Sardinia in which the goldsmith's art extols a settled tradition are not many. Among these few areas we mention Cagliari, Sassari, Quartu Sant'Elena and Oliena.
