In Ogliastra woods overhanging the sea
The park of Selene surrounding Lanusei, is only one of the most famous woods among the many that characterize the green Ogliastra. In September-October it is possible to find huge mushrooms of very good quality, and during the other periods it is an invaluable destination of healthy walks on the green. It is not by accident, that many elderlies spend there some weeks of relax during the summertime: in the evening coolness is garanteed.
Ogliastra boasts one of the widest forests of Sardinia, that of Montarbu, which is in part in the territory of Seui, in the nearby Barbagie and in part it interests the towns of Arzana, Gairo and Ussassai.
The most ancient tree in Ogliastra overlooks the blue sea of Santa Maria Navarrese (Baunei): it is an millenarian olive, only witness of what was a forest. It is near the little church (XVI century) dedicated to the Sant’Arzana where four other natural monuments are visible: three yew-trees, in locality Tedderieddu, and an evergreen oak, in the locality of Perreddu. If you go through the Gola di Gorroppu (gully of Gorroppu), in the stretch of Urzulei, you can admire a few centuries old yew-tree, while instead in the territory of Talana in the locality of Gundunu there are ancient downy oaks. At least, in the forest of Montarbu (in the part of the territory of Seui) it is possible to admire an ancient evergreen oak in the locality Funtana Su Canali.
In the territory of Perdasdefogu is well worth a visit the Park of Bruncu Santoru, in which the paths are very well tracked.
On the Monte Armidda, among imposing trees and far away from light sources, you will find the Osservatorio Astronomico (the Astronomical Observatory), open to the public.
