Su Pranu Sanguni, in Spring the mounts are colored of red
In San Nicolò Gerrei, like in the rest of the territory, the environment is charming and induces to walk among valleys and forests. The characteristic Pranu Sanguni (that means upland of the blood) is well worth a visit. It takes the name from the reddish vegetation that grows lush during the springtime. For people who love the excursions among the peaks, we suggest to go on the Monte Genis and on the Monte Arrubiu: they preserve two state property forests of great impact.
Armungia is a village situated south the valley of the Flumendosa, that can be admired from the panoramic zone of Ilixi Durci. The surrounding forests are inhabited by the wild boars and by a fauna (hares, quails, pellets) that attract many hunters in the periods in which hunting is permitted. For those who prefer to contemplate animals, the slopes around Armungia offer various species of predators nests and some specimen of wildcat to be observed from a due distance.
Sant'Andrea Frius is a little town surrounded by treelike cultivation and vineyard which constitute the primary riches of this locality, but also from green valleys like those of the Cirras rill and of the Cardaxius rill. Sant'Andrea Frius has known some important periods (in particular under the Punic and Roman rules), but also some decay periods to the extent that in XVII century, the town was fled by its population who was looking for a job and for minimal means of subsistence. In XVIII century it found to develope the agripastoral sector. The national archaeological museum of Cagliari still conserves funeral trappings, that have been found in a prehistorical grave.
Villasalto: on the mountains Genis, Arrubiu, Lora e Pardu is possible to realize scenic excursions immersed in grassy grounds.
