The nine hills of Cagliari, green lungs in between the cement
In spite of the inexorable advancing of cement, Cagliari tries “breathing” thanks to the wind and, especially, to its “green lungs”. Fortunately, in the last twenty years, the parks have increased: the nine hills of the city (Capo Sant’Elia is the highest one, with its 136 meters; followed by San Michele, 110 meters, then Monte Urpinu, Castello, Monte Claro, Buoncammino, Tuvixeddu, San Bartolomeo, Calamosca) are regaining in good part their original vitality, thanks to the drastic reforestation and maintenance interventions.
Monte Urpinu, Monte Claro and the hill of San Michele (with its medieval castle) are the most available areas from the inhabitants and from the tourists: they offer trees, meadows, smalls dams, amusement parks for children and areas for reading and contemplation activities or simply relaxing. On the hills of Sant’Elia, San Bartolomeo, Calamosca and of the Sella del Diavolo you will have the opportunity to take part to guided excursions.
