In spite of the fires a lot of green in Sulcis-Iglesiente as well
Even if the last decades have been characterized by the sad phenomenon of the summer fires, mostly arsons or caused by the superficiality of the man, still many are the woods and the forests in the Sulcis-Iglesiente area. In the charming zone in the shelter of Capoterra, Sarroch and Villa San Pietro has been recorded, during the last centuries, a feverish woodcutter activity to supply timber, not only to the surrounding inhabited centers, but also for the export. Very interesting is the forest of the Monte Arcosu. Don't miss an excursion on the WWF Oasis of the Monte Arcosu (Uta): to the pledge of the conservation group is owed the preservation of one of the most fascinating natural heritage of the province, in which there you find forests of evergreen oaks and cork trees.
Around Santadi we suggest you to visit the forests of San Pantaleo and of the Monte Is Caravius-Arcu S'Olioni, where specimens of the Sardinian deer live protected in the preserve of the Is Cannoneris.
Villacidro is dominated by the surrounding mountains, in particular by the peak of the Monte Linas (1236 meters). Very interesting are the forests of the Monuti Mannu and the waterfalls of the Rio Linas, of the Rio Spendula and of the Rio Muru.
At the exit of Domusnovas, the nearby forest of the Is Cannoneris is well worth a visit. Near the cave of San Giovanni, instead, we suggest having a walk among the oak trees and the evergreen oaks of the Oridda valley.
In the shelter of the dunes of Porto Pino, there is the natural pinewood of Aleppo pines, from which comes the toponym of the wonderful sea resort.
