Waterfalls, sources and ancient thermal baths all over the island
Gallura
The thermal baths of Rinaggiu, in Tempio Pausania, attract tens of thousands of people every year, thanks to the low in mineral content properties of their waters. Tempio is famous also for the numerous sources of cold water (Fundu di Monti, Vallicciola, Curadureddu) that arrives from the sources of the Limbara massif and flows out also in the summery months.
The thermal baths of Casteldoria, near Viddalba, are known since the ancient times. The water, that flows out from the sand, a few meters away from the Coghinas river, reaches a temperature of 70°C.
Gerrei
In the countrysides of San Nicolò Gerrei, on the Ixi Mount, we suggest visiting the nuraghic source of Su Musuleu. Nearby, the remains of the huts of a nuraghic village.
Logudoro-Meilogu
Close to the village of Rebeccu (Bonorva) you will find the nuraghic source of Su Lomarzu. According to a popular tradition of the zone, the water that flows out there has miraculous powers.
Nuorese
On the Ortobene Mount, in locality Rìbu ‘e Sèuna, the source of Milianu is the destination of many visitors all year round.
In Su Cologone, in the side of the Supramonte, between Oliena and Dorgali, there is an important source that attract thousands of tourists every month. Its water feeds the Cedrino river also during the summertime.
In the countrysides of Orani, still very fascinating are the thermal baths of Oddini, well-known and frequented since the times of the Romans: also the shepherds of the zone knew their thaumaturgic powers.
Ogliastra
Spectacular, especially when the heavy rains (as it happened in the last two winters) guarantee a continuous suppling of water. The waterfalls of Luesu, in the territory of Perdasdefogu, are among the most beautiful natural jewels of the zone.
The majestic waterfall of Lequarci (reaches also the 100 meters of hight) and those of Lecorci characterize the area of Ulassai. Only in the summertime, because of the dryness, the jet of water reduces remarkably.
The sources of Niala and Milisai, in the woods of Ussassai, attract numerous tourists all year round.
In the proximity of Perdasdefogu there is the nuraghic source of Giuanni Puddu.
Sinis Peninsula
The pond of Is Benas takes its name from the numerous sources that flowed out in the surrounding territory: probably they were fed by the surrounding veins that formed in the near region of the Montiferru, that , as everybody knows, is rich in water.
Sarcidano
Close to the village of San Simone (abandoned in the nineteenth century), in the territory of Escolca, there is the Fontana de Is Morus (the fountain of the Moors): it has been dedicated to San Simone and other personages came from Africa to preach the Gospel.
In the Park of Funtana Is Arinus, in Nurallao, it is possible to admire the waterfalls that feed the rio Sarcidano until the dam of Is Barroccus.
Sarrabus
Interesting for the visitors the ruins of the roman thermal baths, beside the Romanesque church of San Basilio, in territory of Goni. The village is small and it does not have particular monuments, but the surrounding environment repays widely for the visit.
Trexenta
In the countrysides of Ortacesus are present many low in mineral content water sources, among which are worth to be mentioned those of Mitza S’Orrù and Mitza Su Fenu.
Many are the sources in the territory of Mandas, that originate the affluents of the Mulargia lake and of the Flumini Mannu.
