The thermal baths of Sardara, from the Romans up until now the hyper-thermal waters
Sardara (Campidano) is famous for the spas of Santa Maria Acquas, located in the wood at the entrance of the town. The hyper-thermal waters (they have been compared in qualities to those of Vichy) have a great curative power and they have been exploited since long time ago (the ruins of the spas built by the Romans are still visible, but inside the structure soars even a nuragh) and they attract thousands people every year.
In Sardara there are two year-round opened spas, where it is possible to undergo mud-baths, inhalations and beauty treatments. Very interesting is even the Funtana de is Dolus, quoted in some books of the II century B.C.: it is well worth a visit.
Always in Campidano, but in the area of Assemini, in the locality of Gutturu Mannu, there is the spring of Mitza Faneba. Its name, that means “the propitious spring”, hires a thousand years tradition of rituals which induced the nuraghic peoples to build a big village nearby. A few meters away from the spring are still visible the ruins of a nuragh.
In the zone of Villaspeciosa, in the locality of Cuccureddu, we suggest you to visit the archaeological site of San Cromazio, with the ruins of the roman spas (built during the III century B.C.), above which a century later, a Christian building decorated with a polychrome mosaic was built.
