Fordongianus, thermal baths between well-being and archaeology
The thermal baths of Fordongianus have been renowned since a long time ago, for the curative properties of their water that today still it flows out from its spring at a temperature of 54°C. The Romans, who built the spa in the shelter of the left side of the river Tirso, used the water for therapeutical aims.
The first pools were built in the I century A.D., but the structure was enlarged during the III century A.D.. Today it is possible to admire the different rooms (frigidarium, tepidarium e calidarium) , where people plunged at different temperatures, and the so-called “natatio”. The ability of the roman hydraulic technicians allowed the installation of an aqueduct which, through a network of canals, fed pits and cisterns, in part still visible.
Visiting the Barigadu, if you go through the territory of Nughedu Santa Vittoria, inside the naturalistic Oasis of Assai you can have a rest at the spring of Su Fastiarbu.
