The protected marine Area of Sinis Peninsula
The protected marine Area of Sinis-Isola di Mal di Ventre was instituted in 1997 by the Ministry of the Environment, to protect one of the most fascinating part of the sea in Sardinia. The taken measures, which can seem too restrictive, (the rules enforce the observance of regulations for swimmers and watercrafts) are contributing to keep alive an ecosystem of an inestimable value.
The coast of Sinis Peninsula is very variegated. It is possible to pass from the Capu Mannu reefs to the adjacent inlet of Sa Mesa Longa, where sandstone outcrop rocks (that was the material used to build the ancient town of Tharros), from the cliffs of Su Tingiosu and the other promontories to the beaches of white and fine sand: the longest ones are those of Su Siccu (about 7 kilometers) and Is Arenas (6 kilometers), but also very charming are those of Su Pallosu, Is Aruttas, Maimoni and San Giovanni.
