When a city rests on thousands underground cavities

Even if it could seem strange, it is not necessary to go away from Cagliari to visit very interesting caves and cavities. The subsoil of the city, in fact, is rich in caves dug by the unceasing action of water that runs abundant in the layers and, sometimes, originates landslides. Some groups of speleologists organize guided visits.

To gain access to those located at the foot of the limestone cliffs of Capo Sant’Elia, in the zone of Cala Fighera and Calamosca is better to move by boats via sea: the access is easier (in some cases it is not reachable otherwise) and at the same time, it is possible to admire the beauty of the turquoise sea. If you take part to an excursion on the Sella del Diavolo, one of the symbols of Cagliari, you will have the opportunity to visit the cave of Sant’Elia and the cave of the Colombi.
