Dedicated to Neptune one of the most beautiful caves of the Nurra
The cave of Nettuno, in Capo Caccia, maybe the most famous of Sardinia was discovered in the eighteenth century and consists in numerous communicating rooms, which have been described as fabulous places by writers and poets.
Connected to the Alghero port through a complex of tourist boats, the cave of Nettuno is reachable even from the peak of the promontory, at an altitude of 120 meters, thanks to the 654 stone stairs of the “escala del Cabriol” (staircase of the roe), hollowed in the rock and inaugurated in 1954. Stalactites and stalagmites formed through millions of years.
A trick of light brings out chromatic contrasts inside this natural calcareous jewel, almost 1500 meters long, where a little lake evokes some of the places described by Dante Alighieri in The Divine Comedy. Along the Riviera del Corallo some other caves of less importance are reachable from the sea, , like the Verde cave (linked to that of Nettuno) and the cave of the Ricami, all originated by carsick features.
