
Discovering Gerrei: century old trees, wild boars, hare and grouses
Gerrei is one of the less populated areas of Sardinia, also because of its morphology. Characterized by the prevalence of mountains and hills, this zone offers a vast woody surface.In San Nicolò Gerrei, the environment is lovely and induce to have a walk between valleys and woods. Its characteristc Pranu Sanguni (it means blood altipiani) and it takes its name from the reddish vegetation, which grows lush during the spring time. For people who love excursions among peaks we advise to go to the Genis mountain and to the Arrubiu mountain: they preserve state property woods of a great impact.
Armungia is a town in the south of the Flumendosa valley, which can be admired from the scenic area of Ilixi Durci. The nearby woods are populated by wild pigs and game (hares, quails and grouses), that, during the periods in which the region lift the permission of hunting, attract many wildfowlers. Contrariwise, who prefers to contemplate animals, in the slopes around Armungia, various species of predators nidify and it is possible to observe from a due distance some specimen of wildcat.
Sant'Andrea Frius is a little town surrounded by treelike cultivation and vineyard which constitute the primary riches of this locality, but also from green valleys like those of the Cirras rill and of the Cardaxius rill. Sant'Andrea Frius has known some important periods (in particular under the Punic and Roman rules), but also some decay periods to the extent that in XVII century, the town was fled by its population who was looking for a job and for minimal means of subsistence. In XVIII century it found to develope the agripastoral sector. The national archaelogic museum of Cagliari still conserves funeral trappings, that have been found in a prehistorical grave.
Villasalto: on the mountains Genis, Arrubiu, Lora e Pardu is possible to realize scenic excursions immersed in grassy grounds.
