Small wineries grow thanks to technology and innate passion of the Sardinians
Many Sardinian wineries are already renowned, while others in continue growth since they spotted the right market-development strategies, as the Ferruccio Deiana winery which has had a rapid growth. Today, this wine maker boasts one of the best “barricaie” of Sardinia ( a winery with valuable “barriques”, small barrel in French oak used for fermentation and maturation in wood of the wines Chardonnay, Carignano and Cannonau) and some of its wine have been prized in national competitions (the Arvali and the Donnikalia, Vermentino D.O.C. (Controlled Origin Denomination), and the Pluminus, Isola dei Nuraghi I.G.T. Bianco).
In the bordering regions of Arborea and of Peninsula of Sinis, the wineries are located in Riola Sardo, Baratili San Pietro, Marrubiu, Zeddiani, San Vero Milis, Terralba, Cabras and Oristano. In the main city, in the Rimedio area, there is the Cantina sociale of the Vernaccia. In Cabras, the Azienda Vitivinicola Attilio Contini (Wine Company established in 1898, is one of the oldest in Sardinia) is famous beside the usual production of Vernaccia, also for the production of the P.G.I. (Protected Geographical Indication) red Barrile. In the same locality, the Silvio Carta winery is obtaining good satisfactions also from the grappa of Vernaccia..
In the territory the Josto Puddu (Zeddiani) and Produttori Riuniti (producers consortium, Baratili San Pietro) wineries are also renowed.
Among the most appreciated P.D.O. Wines produced in the Campidano area, it is worth to be mentioned the Perdera of the Argiolas Winery of Serdiana. This company is famous for the multi-prized Turriga, a red P.G.I. truly valuable, and for other wines like Korem (an interesting red), Costera (Cannonau), and Costamolino (Vermentino). Large part of these success are due to Giacomo Tachis, one of most distinguished Italian oenologist. Other wines like the Monica Tuerra, of the Social Wineryof Quartu Sant’Elena, and the Elima of the Pala's Serdiana company.
In Gallura we point out: the Cantina (winery) of Vermentino of Monti (above all, the Vermentino Superiore Aghiloia, but Funtana Liras, S’Eleme and Abbaìa are also appreciated ), the Cantina Sociale Gallura of Tempio Pausania (Canayli and Balajana: the first is a Vermentino Superiore, the second is a wise mix of Vermentino and Chardonnay made precious in barrique), the Pedra Majore of Monti (above all excel the D.O.C.G. (Controlled and guaranteed denomination of origin), Hysony, very interesting is also the Vermentino I Graniti), the Capichera of Arzachena (with the homonym Vermentino D.O.C.G.), the Cantina Sociale Giogantinu of Berchidda (gives its name to the Vermentino D.O.C.G. and Vermentino D.O.C.G. Superiore), and the winery of the Vineyard of Piero Mancini (located in Olbia, produces an excellent Chardonnay sparkling wine ).
In Logudoro-Meilogu stands out the wine production of the Azienda Vitivinicola Giovanni Maria Cherchi, located in Usini. Among all, on our point of view, the Cagnulari Soberanu and the Vermentino (passed in barrique) Boghes deserve our attention.
The DOC Malvasia of Bosa (Marghine-Planargia) has an intense aroma and an unique amber color. It is produced by the social Cantina Planargia of Flussìo, that sell also a very good Malvasia Grappa. The Fratelli Porcu (brothers) of Modolo are increading their market shares. Finally, in Magomadas, you can visit the winery of Gianvittorio Naitana, producer of the Murapiscados, excellent dessert or after dinner wine ideal to sip while conversing or simply meditating upon life.
In Marmilla, the greater part of the produced grapes is transformed by the winery the Nuraghe of Mogoro.
In Nuorese we point out the Social Winery of Oliena we sells excellent wines such as the Corrasi ( reserve DOC. Cannonau of Sardinia), the Nepente ( D.O.C. Cannonau of Sardinia: like the Corrasi with 14.5% grades, which is quite high for a table wine) and Lanaitto (P.G.I. Isola dei Nuraghi, either rosé or red). The Social Winery of Dorgali is also remarkable (with its Vigna di Isalle, a good Cannonau of Sardegna D.O.C.), that uses grapes from a wide territory, producing some P.G.I wines. Very appreciated are: the white Cala Luna, the rosé Filieri and the red Fuili. Try the delicate grappa of Cannonau Filieri reserve. In any case, the 95 per cent of the worked grapes came from the Cannonau vineyard.
Nurra is one of the richest Sardinian region on the side of wine production profile. In a limited territory we find lots of company that produce wine either from their own vineyard or from bestowal grapes. Among all, we mention Sella & Mosca (established in 1899, it has been recently taken over by the Campari SpA, but it has kept its original name) and the Cantina Sociale Santa Maria La Palma.
In Ogliastra stand out the Cooperativa Vitivinicola Jerzu (with its D.O.C. reserve Cannonau of Sardinia, in particular Chuerra and Josto Miglior) and the Social Winery Ogliastra in Tortolì.
Parteolla is represented by the Social Winery of Dolianova, which produces four million bottles par year (mostly Monica, Nasco and Nuragus). Very appreciated is also the Blasio, a Cannonau reserve.
In the region of Sarrabus the grapes are mostly bought by the Social Winery of Castiadas. Its most appreciated wine is the red Sant’Elmo, but this company produces also a good Vermentino Capo Ferrato, in the dry and sweet versions.
A couple of years ago, the Romangia Cooperative has taken over the Social Winery of Sorso and Sennori (Sassarese-Romangia). The homonym P.G.I. and the Cannonau Jennos are also interesting. From the Dettori properties, beyond the homonym red, there are also others two Cannonau, the Tenores and the Tuderi.
Among the wineries operating in the region of Sulcis-Iglesiente, we notice those of Santadi (one of the best Social Winery in Sardinia, as testified by the numerous international prizes won in the last years; excellent D.O.C. wines are Terre Brune, aged in barrique and Rocca Rubia; very good are also the white Villa Solais and Pedraia), Sant’Antioco and Calasetta, that produce other typical Sardinian wines.
Agriculture is one of the main resources of Trexenta. A large part of this territory is dedicated to vineyards, thanks also to the Winery of Trexenta located in Senorbì; among its best seller wines we quote Tanca Sa Contissa, a good quality D.O.C. Vermentino of Sardinia
