Sospiri of Ozieri dressed in their Sunday best
Guèffus are produced in all the Island, but their name varies from zone to zone. For example, in Ozieri, they are called Sospiri (Sights) and are considered the confectionery speciality of that small city. In the Northern Sardinia they are called Guelfos, in the province of Nuoro Suspirus, in Barbagia Suspiros. Like the majority of Sardinian typical sweets, they are made of almonds and sugar. They have a spherical shape and are wrapped in tissue-paper coloured in white, pink or light blue. The Gueffus used to be part of the town feasts' tradition, but nowadays they are produced also on Sundays and often during the week.
