The Canestrati imported from other Italian regions
In Sarcidano, some cheese factories, like the one in Nurri, commercialize the so-called “canestrati”. It is a kind of cheese seasoned in wicker baskets, which confer to crust a striped or wavy surface. However, this cheese is not part of the pure Sardinian tradition, it has been imported from other Italian regions with different names such as Calcagno, Crotonese, Foggiano and Pepato.
