Fluminimaggiore
Fluminimaggiore is a Sulcis-Iglesiente town, famous not only for the beauty of its territory but also for the richness of its archaeological sites. The temple of Antas stands out among all, laying on a green valley at 10 minutes from the inhabited center. The Roman built it at the beginning of the III century A.D., next to a Punic temple of the 500 B.C., dedicated to the Sardus Pater Babai God. Previously, also the nuragic people chosen that zone for their sacred rituals. The rests of a mosaic floor are still very visible and eight columns with Doric capitals, beyond other two bathes for the ablutions.
Next to the Antas valley you could visit the most famous cave of the zone, called Su Mannau. It is situated among the limestone mountains, boasting a wide central room and other smaller rooms at the sides, where stalagmites and little lakes reign. Not far from there, there is the spring of Gutturu Shovel. In the Park of Linas Mount, which is partially extended into the territory of Fluminimaggiore, the Muru Mannu waterfalls are among the natural beauties not to be missed: with a jump of approximately 70 meters.
In the town, we suggest you to visit the ethnographic "Licheri" Museum, which takes the name from the millers family, who managed the water mill (since 1700) that accommodates the structure. Placed on the shores of the Mannu river, the museum shows numerous tools used in agriculture and handicraft activities, as the webbing and the wood working. Among the events, we point out Su Fogadoni di Sant’Antonio abate. On the 16th of January many bonfires are lighted to celebrate the Saint, as it also happen in other towns of the Sardinia.
