
Santadi
Santadi is a an agricultural town, but it is also interesting from other point of views, such as archaeology, handicraft and local traditions. On the first Sunday of August, thousand of people assemble in Santadi to assist in the ancient ceremonial (approximately two thousand years old) with the spouses in the traditional custom and the procession of the respective families, accompanied by the "traccas", the typical Sardinian ox carts adorned for the celebration. After dinner, there is the ritual of the mothers who bless the couple with two jugs of water, grain, salt, coins and roses petals.
“Sa Domu Antiga” ( the old house ) ethnographic Museum and the archaeological Museum offers a more complete picture of what is on offer in this Sulcis-Iglesiente locality. If you pass by Santadi, do not miss visiting the archaeological area of Pani Loriga, where you will find the Phoenician-Punic necropolis with 150 tombs, placed next to the fortress built by the Phoenician in the VII century B.C. A part of the Diana nuragh and of the nuragic village rests, it is possible to admire the Barrancu Mannu tomb of giants.
