Buggerru
In the first half of 1800 Buggerru was only a small village close to the sea. But when all the trees nearby the Malfidano's mountain were cut down by the lumberjacks send from a Tuscany enterprise, a mine society started to consider it with particular attention. It was then discovered that underneath it all there was the richest zinc deposit of Italy. The local economy sensibly grows and Buggerru became a quite big town. Unfortunately, at the beginning of the twentieth century the relationships between the managers and the owners of the Malfidano ruined due to the heavier work shifts, imposed to face the conspicuous commission from a French company. On the 4th of September 1904, the police forces killed three miners during a protest demonstration against the direction. These facts marked, in a certain way, the beginning of a slow but inexorable decline of the mine and the consequent economic crisis of the territory. Today it is possible to visit the few remaining structures, the only true attraction of the town, beside the big beach bathed from the sea, characterized by strong marine currents.
