Goni

Goni is a small town, which originally was an old shepherds village. From the toponym took the name also the mono-tower nuragh that dominates the locality, also known as Su Nuraxi. Next to the Roman church of San Basilio, the ruins of the Roman thermal baths are also interesting. Furthermore, we suggest you to visit the cave of Bau Crabas, where have been found numerous fossils.

The town is small and does not have any particular monuments, but the surrounding area offers a lovely landscape. However, Goni is principally famous for its necropolis of Pranu Muttedu, which goes back to 3000 B.C and contains several tombs disposed inside of stone circles. Quite amazing is also the collective grave, which would have accommodated one or more important people of the nuragic village. The site has developed around a group of Domus de Janas. In successive ages, the local populations replaced this kind of grave with circular tombs. A tomb shows an intermediate solution between the two burying typologies, basically a superficial domus de janas, in the middle of stone circles.

In the archaeological site of Goni there are about sixty menhir , disposed according to an astral and temporal logic, connected to the ancestor cults. The park of Prano Muttedu extends along several hectares around the site, inviting to take long and pleasant walks into the green. Nearby Goini, it is also possible to visit Sa domu ‘e s’Orcu nuragh.
