Tortoĺ
In the proximity of Arbatax's port, the town of Tortolì is one of the most active in regard of tourism, thanks also to a small airport. This town has from many years tried to achieve the administrative and political supremacy of the near Lanusei. It is well worth visiting the church of Sant' Andrea, constructed in the XVII century but modified with an hint of Baroque style in XVIII.
Tortolì is at only few kilometers from the sea. In this beautiful stretch of coast, characterized especially by the red rocks of Arbatax, there are two towers (one of San Gemiliano and a Spanish one) which centuries ago were very useful to foresee the Barbarians sea invasions.
The Little Green Train (Trenino Verde delle Ferrovie della Sardegna) crosses the entire Ogliastra, arriving to Arbatax. This is certainly the most fantastic path of the Little Green Train on the Island. An exciting experience, permitting everybody to admire the astonishing wild landscape travelling aboard of an old steam locomotive.
