Places to visit in Baunei

The oldest tree in Ogliastra, a thousand years-old olive facing the sea of Santa Maria Navarrese, testifies the nowadays disappeared wood which used to exist in proximity of the little church ( XVI century) dedicated to the Saint. 

For the free-climbing lovers, we recommend the Voragine del Golgo's walls.  In the territory of Baunei you could admire Pedra Longa, a spire of cliff called also Agugliastra, from which the region of the Ogliastra could have taken its name.

According to an archaeological point of view the giant tomb of Osono (in Triei) is very interesting:  it is considered one of the most important on Sardinia for its conformation and dimensions.

In the stretch of the Gorroppu's  gorge in Urzulei, you can admire a hundreds years old yew-tree.  Urzulei boasts some very interesting caves as those of Su Palu ( remarkable for their dimensions) and of Sa Domu'e S' Orcu:  where were found some Nuragic little-bronze statues, among which one called "the mother of the murdered", exposed at the National Archaeological Museum of Cagliari. 

Despite of the tortuous road, we suggest you to visit the historical center of Talana, which conserves numerous examples of houses entirely built in granite, one of the most diffuse cliffs in Sardinia.
