Stintino
The village of Stintino was constructed in 1885 by the local fishermen, next to Punta Negra, where the sea has a wonderful turquoise color. In 1988, just after the following century, the country has become an independent Town, after having been for a long time a fraction of Sassari(the main city of the Province). The beach of Stintino, especially the Pelosa is one of the most beautiful beach in the Nurra and also of the whole Sardinia.
In the tourist port, very popular in the summer, you will find the Tuna (Tonnara) Museum that illustrates the tuna fishing process in the saline area. From here, it is possible to embark for the National Marine Park of the Asinara (at the end of the XIX century, it was an agricultural penal colony, but it turned soon into a museum): it was instituted in 1997 and it is regulated by strict national protection laws. Among the exciting curiosities, the principal event is surely the one called “Viaggio del postale” (Journey into the post) an historical commemoration of the ancient local post office, held in July. Very fascinating is the Latin sail regatta, at the end of August.
