Dorgali
Dorgali is one of Sardinian town in which you could find craftsmen specialized in the creation of flick knives, with steel blade and deer-horn handle. Several leather objects are also handmade in this locality. Golden jewels and ceramic handiworks, locally produced, are also in high demand.
A coast rich in natural cavities characterizes the territory of Dorgali. The cave of Bue Marino (Marine Ox) is the main one, and can be reached by boat from the harbors of Cala Gonone, Santa Maria Navarrese and Arbatax ( (the journey by land is quite difficult, as there is not a specific path). Until few decades ago, this area was populated by the last exemplars of monk seal, a mammal which nowadays is considered an endangered specie. On the inner walls of the Bue Marino’s cave can be admired pre historic graffiti. The cave extends for kilometers, presenting stretches of white sand next to underground lakes of crystalline water.
You could visit two important nuragic villages, those of Serra Orrios and Su Nuragheddu, beside the ruins of the big Mannu nuragh (the last two are in the proximity of Cala Gonone). Next to the street connecting Nùoro to Siniscola, instead, do not miss seeing the Ena ‘e Thomes tomb of Giant.
On the side of the mount Monte S’Ospile, you will find the beautiful cave of Ispinigoli: from the entrance you will have access to a huge underground room walking down about 300 steps. From the middle of the cavity emergesa giant calcareous column reaching the vault A, with its approximately 40 meters of height, it is considered the highest in Europe.
