Oliena
Protected by the Supramonte, Oliena is a very vital town with regard to tourism, either for the natural beauty of its territory and for eating-and-drinking products (especially cheese and wine) and the handmade goods (jewels and shawls). In the part of Supramonte between Oliena and Dorgali, at Su Cologone there is the homonym spring that attract thousand of tourists every month.
In the Supramonte of Oliena, precisely in Lanaitto valley, we find a Tomb of Giants not far from the entrance of Sa Oche cave. In proximity of the site there are the rests of a nuragic village named Sa Sedda ‘e Carros, in which were discovered interesting bronze handiworks of historic and cultural value.
On Oliena mountains you could see numerous archaeological sites, among which we point out the famous nuragic village of Tiscali (called like this because of the mount where it was built thousand of years ago, hidden into a cavity: the majority of the huts got destroyed by the vault downfall of what might have been a cave) and the village of Sa Sedda ‘e Carros, near to he cave of Sa Oche.
The caves of Sa Oche (the voice) and of Su Bentu (the wind) insinuate into the inner parts of Supramonte, on Oliena territory, and are largely invaded by the icy water of an underground torrent, which feeds some small lakes attracting scuba diving experts from all over the world. The caves of S’Istampu, Sas Ballas and Sa Turgusa are also in this zone.
