Santu Lussurgiu

Santu Lussurgiu

Santu Lussurgiu is one of the most important town in Montiferru, its historical centre boasts many ancient houses still in good conditions, thanks to urban restoration works started on the last years. Numerous are the active artisan laboratories (working in particular iron, leather and wood, but carpets are also in high demand). The “albergo diffuso” is well developed.

Among the churches of Santu Lussurgiu, Santa Maria of the Angels deserves a visit, constructed in the XV century under the order of San Bernardino from Feltre. From an artistic point of view, there are interesting canvas of the 1600 and a wooden sculpture of the 1500. We suggest you also to visit the Museum of the peasant Technology, where hundreds of local agro-pastoral tools are displayed. The exposition is host into a private house of the 1700. The town is also famous for certain events: in the first place for the Holy Week rituals, and then for “Sa carrela ‘e nanti”, one of the most important horse race in Sardinia, that departing from the main public square and crosses the inhabited centre.
