The surrounding territory is very rich. In the nuragic site of Saint Cristina (Paulilatino) there is the homonym mono tower nuragh, with a small corridor that introduces to a circular room leading to three other rooms. The tholos top can be reached with a stair from outside the structure. Around the nuragh and the sacred well (one of most visited in Sardinia) there are the remains of numerous huts, among which those the reunions, with a row of stone seats where the heads tribe and the clergymen seated coming from all the territory.
The name of the nuragh Lugherras, in the territory of Paulilàtino, came from the lamps found by the archaeologists during the diggings, that brought back to light the central tower. Around the nuragh it is possible to see the ruins of the nuragic village and of a sacred well.
The medieval village of Zuri was abandoned in the first half of the last century, when the artificial lake Omodeo was created. The population had to move uphill, in horder to save the beautiful San Pietro church, which was dismantle and then built again using the same pieces. The parish, as the interior epigraphy explain, goes back to1291, it was basically constructed in full Giudicale age taking advantage of the red trachyte extracted from the hollow of Bidonì.
San Serafino village is also part of the territory of Ghilarza. It was constructed in front of the terminal part of Omodeo lake and get really lively in occasion of certain festivities, such as for San Serafino and San Raffaele, attracting hundred of persons from all the territory beyond the houses owners that encircle the beautiful church in trachyte.
