Cuglieri
Cuglieri is one of the most famous locality in Montiferru, and not only for its great tradition in the production of tapestries, carpets and chest covers in various materials. The local craftswomen are well known for the “prendidura”, that is a cotton fringe used to adorn towels and shits. The production of copper and wooden handicrafts is also very renowned.
The beautiful basilica of Santa Maria della Neve is certainly worth a visit. The Medieval architectonic style makes it look like a castle rather than a church, especially its façade. The original building was erected around the XV century, but it was reconstructed in the seventeenth century due to a structure fall. Following further works, the façade has been extended to the entrance colonnade. In the town there are still some cisterns and the base of the surrounding wall of the Casteddu Etzu, which was known as “Castello del Monte Ferru”: built in the XII century to defend against the attacks of the near Giudicato di Arborea.
