To visit in the territory of Sorgono

Not distant from this town there is Atzara, where you can visit the church of Sant’Antioco (XV century) in Gothic-Aragonese style. In the middle of the facade stands out a rose window in trachyt. The old town center is still today characterized by ancient houses that show the life style and the furnitures of the nineteenth century. Some of they go back to the period of the Aragonese rule, whose signs are visible also in the churches. The Museo di Arte moderna e contemporanea "Antonio Ortiz Echagüe", guards pictures of Sardinian and Spanish painters and a photographic show that illustrates the town at the beginning of the 1900's. In Atzara the ancient tradition of the hand-noted carpets is still alive. Woollen and cotton carpets are produced in bright colours, with the “a pibiones” technique (grains similar to grape) and also of raw wool blankets.

Even if it is reachable only covering a road that bends several times (but accompanied by a charming scenographic view, thanks to the thick woods of oaks, holm-oaks and durmasts), we suggest going as far as the nuraghic village of S’Urbale, in the territory of Teti. It is made of more than fifty huts, constructed in the valley of the Taloro river. In another locality it is possible to visit the village of Abini, a conglomeration of circular huts provided with fencings for the reunions and the sacred pit. In the Archaeological Museum of Teti are in exposition the materials recovered by the students and investigators in the whole territory of the mountain Community Barbagia-Mandrolisai. In particolar, it guards the objects uncovered in the nuraghic villages of S’Urbale and of Abini, like bronze findings, ceramics vases, weapons and objects for the leather working. Interesting the reconstruction of a nuraghic hut, on the same line of those that is possible to visit in S’Urbale.
