Oschiri
Oschiri is a town of the recent Olbia-Tempio province, it is famous for the perfection of its embroideries and for the quality of the fabric products. It is worth visiting the small church of San Demetrio, in Romanesque style, built in the XII century and nowadays used as a chapel of the cemetery. In the surrounding countryside is located the church of Santo Stefano (XVI century), in front of which there is a stone altar of Byzantine age: a cult place that perhaps was already known before the advent of Christ and then adapted to the Christian religion. Numerous slits in several shapes are carved into the rock, here probably where placed the offers of the faithful people.
Just outside Oschiri, the ex cathedral of Nostra Signora di Castro deserves a visit for sure. It is small but original On the top of a hill in front of the Coghinas lake, it was built during the XII century with blocks of red and brown trachyte. It had an important role until 1503, when Pope Giulio II suppressed the diocese of Castro. It was refurbished several times but it still presents elements of the Lombardic school Romanesque style. Around the area are present some "cumbessias", small houses constructed to give hospitality to the pilgrims. On the Coghinas lake shores there are the rests of the erroneously called castle of Castro: as secure proofs of the medieval fortress have not yet been found. The diggings of the archaeological site have instead brought back to light the ruins of a station built by the Roman people, that connected the far Karalis (the actual Cagliari) with Gallura. Some graves and the rests of an aqueduct were also found.
