Luogosanto
Luogosanto is a small center of Gallura, encircled by thick vegetation. Interesting the little church of San Leonardo (constructed in the XIII century, not distant from the castle of Balaiana, of which remains just a few rests), entirely in granite: it is empty in its interior but it has a particular charm. It is possible to gain access in it, going up a rather steep scale on the top of the mount that dominates the valley.
In Luogosanto there are twelve churches, among which that of San Trano. In the cave in which were found the bones of Saints Trano and Nicholas, a few benches have been placed in front of a stone altar: the simplicity helps to find the way for the meditation, in a place that induces to the prayer. The very beautiful church of Nostra Signora of Luogosanto (XIII century)was widely reconstructed in the XVIII century: in the shelter of an aisle there is the simulacrum of the Madonna that, according to the legend, was uncovered in a beach of Arzachena.
