La Maddalena
The citizen that gives the name to the Archipelago of La Maddalena is a characteristic sea resort, that developed in one of the most fascinating areas of Sardinia: it is not by accident that it is stormed by tourists eager to contemplate the beauty of the uncontaminated coast, the keys protected by the granite promontories, the beaches of the finest sand, sometimes colored of pink, washed by a crystalline sea: are these peculiarities that, in 1991, have carried to the constitution of the Parco Marino Nazionale (the National Marine Park). La Maddalena has hosted for a long time the Ammiragliato della Marina Militare (the Military Navy Admiralty), but today it aims at the tourism and at the induced activities. During the summer its old town center is animated the whole day.
In the island of La Maddalena there is the Museo Archeologico Navale (the Archaeological Naval Museum) “Nino Lamboglia”, that hosts numerous findings uncovered in the floor of the archipelago: amphorae, oil lamps, anchors, some parts of a roman hull sunk in the end of the II century A.D. and the objects that were contained in it.
In the enchanting Island of Caprera the museum Compendium of Giuseppe Garibaldi (1807-1882), defined “hero of the Two Worlds”. The general moved permanently in this island of the Archipelago in 1855. Encircled by pines, his house has been transformed in a museum of great interest, where are conserved the original objects and furnishings of Garibalidi's life, weapons and uniforms, beyond his grave and those of his relatives.
