Tempio Pausania
Built on the mountains of Gallura, in front of the Limbàra, Tempio Pausania is one of the most visited localities of this territory. Its old town center is entirely covered with the typical stone of this zone, the granite. The buildings have been mostly built between the 1700's and the 1800's. Piazza Gallura is the point of reference for inhabitants and visitors, and not only for the Palace of the Town hall (XIX century). Very interesting also Piazza San Pietro, that owes its name to the homonym cathedral, constructed in the XV century and refurbished in the half of the XIX. More ancient, is the church of the Rosario (XIII century): it is narrated that the Romans, in that point, built a temple dedicated to Castore and Polluce.
Small but fascinating the church of the Purgatorio (XVII century), constructed for want of the Spanish nobleman Jean Missorro, escaped to an bloody knife duel. Interesting also the church of the Pilar, constructed by the Spanish. Tempio is beautiful to visit all year round, but during the carnival it is particularly crowded. The Tempiese Carnival is celebrated for a week with dances and manifestations that involve the whole population and the numerous tourists. To taste lard based sweets and the zeppole (a kind of doughnut) prepared in the period of carnival.
