Not far from Quartu, it is possible to go for a walk on the beach of the Poetto or to contemplate the flamingos, that nest in the salt pans and in the area of the Park of Molentargius. But there is also the possibility to visit some towns of the metropolitan area and the surrounding territories. In the neighbor Flumini di Quartu, along the coast road that connects the Poetto of Quartu Sant’Elena to Villasimius, there is the little rustic church of the XIII century A.D. where, on the last Sunday of November (since 1626), is celebrated Sant' Andrea. Documents of the XVII century testify the importance given by the Spanish Viceroy to this event, whose organization was entrusted to the “obriere” and to a group of notables of the zone.
In Selargius instead you will find three quite ancient churches: Saint Lussorio (XVII century), San Giuliano (XII century) and Maria Vergine Assunta (XVII century). This town attracts thousands of visitors on the second Sunday of September, on occasion of the Matrimonio Selargino (the Selargino Wedding), ancient campidanese ritual, that goes back to the XVIII century but has been revalued in the Sixties. At the end of the Mass, the bridegroom slips into the finger of the bride the ring of a chain, with which he wraps round the waist of the spouse: it represents the indissolubility of the Sacrament. In the same town, in June, is in program Sa Tundidroxa, that is the sheep shearing.
